Spring Lake, New Jersey
You will know you’re in SL by the size of the insane mansions. Don’t be fooled by the name Spring Lake, it is a far cry from a lake. Just south of Belmar, SL is packed with good surfers and outflow pipes. There are a ton of spots that work and can be great. Some people may argue that these are “secret” spots but you can drive right up to them.
The wave that is just over the border from Belmar has no name or street to reference. It is where the boardwalk turns from concrete to wood. Sounds like a riddle but you’ll know it when you see it. Captain No Name breaks great on a NE swell. Rumor has it that there is an “artificial reef”(loosely used) made up of cement blocks and rebar. Taking off in front of the Jetty is steep and hollow but fattens up to an inside wall. The rips can be intense and falling may smash you into more than sand so use some caution.
