Kaiser Bowls is directly to the right of Rockpiles when
looking out from the beach. This wave is largely a shortboarding
wave with a fast take off but is also enjoyed by experienced
longboarders. You'll find barrels on even small days [4
ft faces] and on bigger days Kaiser’s becomes an
epic right hand tube perfect for getting some shade from
the hot Hawaiian sun. For specific surf spot location
check out our Oahu
surf maps.
Crowd factor: Heavy [which is not
unusual for town spots]. As always be prepared to WAIT
YOUR TURN. If you're of a pasty white complexion sporting
your brand new puka shell necklace, be warned that you
will get "mean mugged" by all the locals.
Also be prepared to getting dropped in on all your waves.
Bottom: Shallow reef which is home
to more vana [sea urchins] than you could count. Don’t
put your hands or feet down unless you want one to make
home in your soft fleshy palms or soles. Watch out for
the sunken ship wreck complete with old pipes ready
to devour your flesh.
Ability level: Intermediate on smallish
days [less than 5 ft faces – shoulder high ] to
advanced on larger days [over 6 ft faces– head
high].
Access: Park in back of the Ilikai and paddle out from
the small beach fronting Rockpiles.
What board to bring: Shortboarding
is easiest here [because of the fast take off] but longboarders
also occasionally dominate the spot on smaller days.
Places to stay: Less than a five minute
drive away from Ala Moana sits the Renaissance Ilikai
Waikiki Hotel on the outskirts of Waikiki. The Ilikai
Hotel watches over the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor and offers
its patrons a front row view to the Ilikai lagoon and
beach. Visitors to the Ilikai can enjoy the relaxing
pool and Jacuzzi area and delicious Hawaiian fare from
the hotel’s restaurant, Canoes Restaurant. Thursday
night through Saturday night, Ilikai guests can enjoy
Hawaiian entertainment, music as well as a torch lighting
ceremony. (Ph) 808-949-3811

Grill, located at Ward Center between Brew Moon and
Compadres, specializes in delicious local cuisine in
a laid-back atmosphere. It’s the perfect place
to just hang out and “cruise” after a long
day at work or an all-day surf session. Ryan’s
also provides live, local music for guests to enjoy
with their delicious pupu’s [appetizers]. Happy
hour is 4:00 – 6:30 pm, 7 days a week, with special
prices on drinks and appetizers. (Ph) 808-591-9132
Surf shops in the area: Roxy Quiksilver

[husbands, boyfriends, fiancés, brothers, friends]

swim suits, rashguards and accessories. (Ph) 808-596-7699
